Kathryn Dziadowicz: The Woman Behind KDziadowiczArt

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your brand.

Hi! My name is Kathryn Dziadowicz, an artist based out of New Hampshire’s Seacoast. My love for the ocean serves as my artistic inspiration. All of my pieces are hand painted with acrylics and finished with several layers of resin ensuring a one of a kind piece. What started as an occasional hobby creating wall art has spiraled into a small business that I cannot imagine a day without.

What inspired you to start your brand or craft?

Growing up in Long Island, NY I’ve spent countless sunrises and sunsets on the beach fascinated by what mother nature has to offer. Over the years the beach has become my slice of heaven on earth. After moving to NH for college, I wanted to find a way to bring the beach culture I grew up with up to the New Hampshire’s Seacoast. When I realized all you could create with resin, I knew this was my way to merge my love for art and the ocean.

What does an average day look like?

An average day involves some part of the “production line” whether its taping, painting, resining, sanding, marketing or a mix of it all my hands are always busy in some aspect in the business. It changes from one day to the next.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

The absolute BEST part of the job is having someone gasp when they see my work in person. It is SO fulfilling when people say they enjoy my work and that it brings them to their happy place, the beach. Absolutely nothing beats it.

When you’re creating do you have a person in mind?

Am I allowed to say my future self? Every time I get into the studio I am flooded with ideas of expansion and the goals I have. I always have this image in my head of my dream studio in a renovated barn and each time I create I get myself closer to that dream.

When was your business founded and how has it evolved over time?

Kathryn Dziadowicz Art began during a lunch break in the summer of 2018 when I stumbled on an acrylic pour of an ocean wave on Youtube. On my way home from work I stopped at a craft store to get the necessary goodies and ruined my carpet all in the same night, oops. After six months of acrylic pours I learned about resin and instantly fell in love with the effects that are created with it. The resin product line has since expanded from just wall art to coasters, tables, serving boards, jewelry dishes and more.

Are there any challenges that you’ve had to overcome?

I think this year has been hard for every small business to some extent. COVID-19 has thrown a wrench in a lot of plans for shows and business expansions. I am just thankful to still be here, creating art that makes my soul happy.

What is one piece of advice you have for a female entrepreneur just starting out?

I recently came across a quote by Rumi which really resonated with me, “When setting out on a journey, do not seek advice from those who have never left home.” It is so easy to compare yourself, your progress, and goals to others but it is crucial to remember everyone is on their own journey and that there is nothing wrong with forging your own path.
